Right click on a field in the Cross-Tab, choose "Format Field" or "Format Text", and go to the "Border" tab. There is a checkbox for "Background" which you can enable for background color shading.
From there, click the x-2 icon to create a formula.
You can use the formula to specify conditional background coloring, and the color codes are provided there by default in comment form.
Here is one I've used:
if {Command.Image Difference} = 0 then crLime else crRed
I am not aware of a way to conditionally format the foreground text color
