Our IS staff is in the process of learning to develop Crystal Reports using Visual Studio.NET in preparation of migrating from AS400, running RPG ILE to a server invironment.

1 - We cannot agreed on whether to embed the Crystal Report into the solution or run the report externally.
Could someone offer pros and cons for each approach?

2 - We are also have deployment issues. After deploying as a Windows Application, the solution seems to execute fine within the deveopment environment, but when placed on the server for other users to access or placed as option to initiate from the intranet, many issues occur.
Can someone suggest sources for debugging these problems. Dead

Thanks in advance for any help!

Re embedded reports, there is a long answer in my book. but the short answer is do the reports need to be modified regularly? if yes, then keep them at a central location that all apps share. if no, then you can embed them in the report to ease installation. in a corporate environment non-embedded is usually best.

re your problems, can you be more specific so that others can see if they had similar experiences that they learned from?
