Topic: embed hyperlink object Posted: 30 Jul 2007 at 12:54pm |
I have a hyperlink filed in MS Access. The hyperlink is a link to jpeg image in ftp site. So what I want to do is to embed those pictures in the each page of the report. I have 100s of pictures in the ftp site and I like to put each picture in each page. Help please. What I have done so far is using hyperlink Format Editor and chose Hyperlink type as a file and I opened up Formula Workshop, and connected to the hyperlink field in my Access. In the report, when I click the object, it will open up in the web browser fine. But, I want them to be embedded in the report...

How ironic. I'm writing how to do this in my book as you posted this question!
To print a picture from the internet, do the following: 1. Drop a picture object onto your report 2. Give it a file location of any picture on your computer (it will be ignored at print time). 3. Right-click on the picture and select Format Graphic. 4. Click on the Picture tab. 5. Next to the Graphic Location property is a Formula button. Click on it. 6. Enter the Access field name that has the graphic location. 7. Save and close everything and preview the report. You should see your images.

Hi,
Thank you. But, I don't see the Graphic Location property or any other. I am using Crystal Report 9.2 Do I have to get current version?
In the Picture tab in Format Graphic, I have only "Crop From", "Scalling", "Original Size", and Reset Button.
Edit:
Oh, wait. I have 9.2 with ESRI version. and it is not registered nor I don't have the registration number. Is it the problem?
Thanks,
Yui

I'm sorry. Yes, this is new feature for XI. There is no way to do it with prior versions.

Thank you!
I am going to buy one now!
Am I ok with the Standard vesion XI?
By the way, with the linked picture, I like to show other information which are associated with the pictures. They are other column in the same database.
So, on each page I can show each raw of information with the pictures.
What steps do I take?

Great. But I would buy the pro version. Standard doesn't have all the features of Pro (missing DCPs is a big deal).

Ok,
so I got XI with Pro.
I followed your step and it is not showing.
The link is ftp address, not web address. Is it a problem?

Problem solved.
The links have to be world wide web, not ftp sites.

Glad you got it working. However, FTP does work for me. The problem with hyperlinks is that if you switch from Design mode to Preview mode and the report object is still selected, then you can't click on it to go to the link. Instead you either have to right-click on it and select Go To Hyperlink, or click anywhere else on the report and then go back and click that field. It's a bit tricky till you realize what it's doing.

Brian,
Ftp works when I use "Insert Hyperlink", and then I have to click in order to look at it.
Web page address works perfect using Graphic Location trick you taught me because it embeds jpegs in the report and I don't have to click them. With this way, I can export all the pages as PDF easily.
