We were running Crystal Reports on a PC that was running Win 7 home Premium. That PC hard drive crashed, but I had Crystal installed on another system, a VM running Win Server 2016 Standard. Some reports from the server are returning no data, or missing data, when compared to the same report on that ran on the PC. They're the same reports as I was able to copy the report folder from the PC to the VM.

I'm thinking it has to be an ODBC driver issue. On the PC, there was only one ODBC driver installed, a 64 bit version of version 13 of the ODBC driver from our ERP provider. I'm not sure where to set which driver Crystal uses, but on the PC that crashed, there was only the 64 bit version 13. On the new VM, there are 32 bit versions of version 15 and 17 of the ODBC driver along with the 64 bit version of version 13.

How can I tell Crystal which one to use? Hint, I'm not an IT guy and my support people are not that familiar with Crystal.

I do not believe 32 bit ODBC's are supported in 2020.  It is something I have thinking about for a while since we have a number of reports using ODBC's.  Including a few Access data sources.  But recently we had a co-worker take a class for Information Design Tool (for universes) and they had to created 32-bit and 64-bit ODBC's for the Access data source and it worked just fine.

Of course it can be annoying to switch over to another data source in a report when all the tables and fields are named the same.

Can 2020 work with a 32bit ODBC source ?

CR 2013 can't access 64bit

Have you tried creating an ODBC connection for the Access DB?  It what we have to do for newer Access formats (2007+).  I know that CR 2020 is supposed to accept 64-bit ODBC connections now.

Hi,

I'm testing CR2020. All our 2013 reports with Access/Excel (DAO) connections can not be open because it doesn't recognize the DAO connection (doesn't exist in 2020).

I can't get to database set datasource because of it.

How do I solve this ?

To add to what these guys have said, if there are firewalls between your laptop and the BOBJ server(s), the BOBJ server processes need to be running on "specified ports", and those ports need to be open in the firewall(s).

You need specified ports because otherwise BOBJ will randomly pick ports for each of the server processes. It used to be that those were all in the 6401-6499 range, but that's no longer the case, so there's no way to just open a range of ports that will be randomly selected by BOBJ.

Hi Brad,

I think your BO server is in clustered environment, when you connect from home, you are able to access primary node to see the reports.

Also you are not into your office domain network (using wifi) so, it is unable to validate the network path to pull the report into your desktop version.

VPN is only the solution, because when you connect through VPN you are connected to your office domain so, it is allowing to access reports.

or

please save reports which you want to modify from office network and make modifications and publish again in your BO.

When in the office, we can open Crystal Reports that arestored on our Business Objects Server without any problem. I use Crystal Reports2013 on my desktop and open/edit/save/run reports on a BO Enterprise. So far,so good.

But when I take my work laptop home I run into an issue. Iconnect via the wifi in my house and it’s a direct connection to the officenetwork. Everything works fine except when I try to edit a report that’s on theBOE server. I can login just fine to it. I can navigate to the folder in BOEwhere the .rpt file is stored. But once I try to open it, I get the followingerror window:

“The report could not be opened from SAP BusinessObjectsEnterprise.

“Possibly the report is on a different SAP BusinessObjectsEnterprise system than the one you

are currently logged onto. If this problem persists, pleasecontact your administrator.”

As a workaround I brought home a separate router/modempre-configured for a private VPI (VPN?) to our work network. Hooked it up andhome and connecting that way, it’s fine. But that’s an expensive workaround.

Any ideas of what may be causing this?
