Hi,

Is it possible to pass values from a sub report back to the main report?

For example, the sub report could generate some sub-totals from its own data set, and then (possibly via a variable) - pass the data back over to  the main report where it can then be used to tally up a total.

Or can data only be sent down to the sub report?

Yes it can do that.
Shared variables can move data either direction.
