Subject: Blank page between Page Header and Group Header

Afternoon all,

quick question; I have the following setup -

Report Header A - Subreport
Report Header B - Text Box
Group Header - Headings
Details - Information

For some reason  I can't seem to get the Headings/information to start on the same page as Report Header B; leaving a massive white space.

If I remove Report Header B they start on Report Header A so I'm baffled....

right click on the sub report
select properties
go to last tab
uncheck 'keep object togther'

Sorry DBlank - my poor explanation skills are shining through!

The Subreport in Report Header A is not the problem (that section actually has 'New Page After' ticked).

The issue is with Report Header B (which only holds a text box) - the Group Headings won't show on the same page even though there is loads of space!

I have tried unchecking 'keep group together' but to no avail.

You have to consider each section, each group and each field or object when trying to look for what is 'pushing' something to the next page.
I believe in general the default of each object added is to have it set to 'keep together. So when a field is set to grow and keep togther it can push the entire object to the next page. If it is at the top of a section it can make it look like the section is being pushed.

I have just unchecked that option on all objects in the Details, Group Header and the Text Box in Report Header B but still not luck :-(

look closely at the information on the left portion of the screen to see what section is straddling the pages. It could be as simple as a series of line feeds inside a string.

Sorry - I'm not sure what that means?

We have looked at the major things that usually cause this.
I am trying to suggest things you can do to trouble shoot and zero in on the object(s) that are causing the display problem.

In the preview mode of the report, on the left hand side of the screen, just left of the ruler, you should be able to see the sections of the report and brackets indicating where they are starting, stopping or flowing over one page to the next. Look closely at this to see if you can determine if a section is actually flowing onto the next page or if it has stopped.

This should hopefully give you a cue as to what section or object may be causing the report to create a new page.
From there focus on that section or objects. Change the background color of an object to see if it is full of blank spaces that is making it grow but you are not aware of all of the extra content inside it.

In preview mode set one possible problem object to not grow. Dis that fix it? If not use ctrl+z to undo that change and then try another object. repeat as necessary until you see the extra page disappear.

try deleting the entire section you think is the cause then use ctr+z to undo it. This can help you at least verify otr narrow down where you need to look for sure and not chase false leads.

Thank you - I have just been looking around as you have suggested but there is nothing that I can see as a problem. Each section is very small and any section that has data (i.e. the Details section) has a border around the field so I can see how big it is.

There is no 'section' that is over two pages or anything like that...

Did you create this or are you editing someone elses work.

Perhaps a Formula that is conditionally setting the new page?

It is my report - the most annoying thing is it is a very very simple report so I cannot see any reason for it going onto a new page.

There are no conditional formula's for a new page or anything.

I think what I am going to have to do is work backwards; delete things one by one until the white space disappears! I'll report back :)

So strangely enough the removal of Report Header A fixed the problem (deleting the sub-report did not, the whole section had to be deleted).

I then re-added the section and the sub-report and everything works.

How strange.... If nothing else at least I now know that I need to do some problem solving of my own before reaching out to the Crystal Community straight away.

DBlank - as always, thank you for your help.
