Subject: Which Edition?!

We are a service industry who currently uses a utility called Report Writer via a closed, individual web server. Each evening a copy of our various clients databases is posted to the individual server at which point they can log in via our website and view, created reports generated from this server.  (Some reports they can enter specific parameters such as date range, item number, etc.)

We need a greater export functionality (currently, they cannot export the reports only view them via PDF)

So the question remains, which edition, Server (at almost 7K! or Professional at a mere 500?)  BusinessObjects descriptions don't help and I have heard conflicting information on which version we should invest in...

Any help would be appreciated!!

As an FYI: We would have about 5 different clients with about 30 or so total logins (no more than 30) the number of reports can range between 5 to 15 for each client (all reports are the same between clients)

Thank you! Look forward to your reply!!

We use the Developer version.  We've written a .NET viewer that allows our users to view reports online.  The reports templates are not "packaged" with the application, they are separate files on the web server.  When a user selects a report to view, the have to define the parameters in our application which then loads the requested report, sets the parameters, and displays it in the viewer.  It's pretty straight-forward.

For reports that need to be scheduled and where we want to keep an historical record of the report data at a specific date and time, we use BusinessObjects Enterprise, but that's overkill for your needs.  Crystal Reports Server will handle this type of requirement for smaller systems like yours.

Thank you for your quick response.

So just to be clear, we would purchase the Developer Edition along with Enterprise in order to maintain the historical data?

(Sorry to be so rudamentary, just not that familiar with this application as of yet)

Is there any way I can see what you all have put together (as an end user) to see if it is what we are looking to do as well?

Thank you!

Being a smaller installation, you could use Crystal Server to maintain historical data.  It comes with a 5 concurrent user license and I believe that you can purchase licenses in increments of 5 up to 20.  There are other options available for the mid-market segment (those who need more than Crystal Server but less than the full Enterprise suite which is very expensive.)  It would be worth your time to contact someone in Sales to help you do an evaluation of your needs to determine which solution is going to be the best fit for you.

Yes, BO Enterprise is considerably more than that.  I'm not sure about pricing for the new Crystal Decisions product that is a scaled back version of BO Enterprise.
