Can someone please tell me how to connect Crystal with DonorPerfect?  I downloaded a foxpro connector, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Thank you so much!
Carole

If DonorPerfect uses a FoxPro database it is likely the Visual FoxPro that is needed. You can download the ODBC driver from Microsoft, however, it will be better to use the OLEDB connection. Again both are available from Microsoft and easily found be a Google search. You may to use the 'free tables' when setting up the connection.

I know that Crystal readily connects to Visual FoxPro databases. I do it most every day since one the products my customers use is written using it as the database system.

Thank you for your response.  I am not sure what you mean by "you may use any of the 'free tables' when setting up the connection."

I downloaded the driver from Microsoft.  For the connection I did: OLE DB then Microsoft OLE DB provider for ODBC, clicked next, then the selections were:
dBase files
Excel Files
MS Access files

None of those worked.

Do you have any suggestions.

Thanks,
Carole

There are several Visual FoxPro drivers from Microsoft and latest version only seem to work well with CR 9 and up.  That version is 6.01.8629.01.  It will show up as Microsolft FoxProx VFP Driver (*.dbf).  I have used this driver for an old FoxPro DB that had tables as files.

If you go here I have instructions with screen shots for setting up FoxPro ODBC connections. The database naming conventions may differ from yours...

Hope this helps

Thank you so much for your help.  I have the correct version of fox pro installed.  I think I am almost there, but not quite

For the connection I did: OLE DB then Microsoft OLE DB provider for ODBC, clicked next, then the selections were:
dBase files
Excel Files
MS Access files
Visual FoxPro Database
Visual FoxPro Tables

I tried both FoxPro Database and FoxPro Tables.  With both of them I got a box asking for my user name and password.  But I don't have a FoxPro user name or password - I tried my normal computer username and password just for kicks and that didn't work either.  I also tried just clicking "next" with no info in the boxes.

All roads lead to the path of "error connection failed."

Goodness this is frustrating.

Any ideas?

Its coming down to a permissions problem. If you have not built CR reports against DonorPerfect before there may in fact be a password passed to the database by the software. You could also make sure you have the necessary permissions to access the database files.

Well, this is before I even let Crystal know I need to get into Donor Perfect.  It's just at the FoxPro level.  I have a DonorPerfect Password, but that doesn't work either.

Has anyone else had the problem of the Profox download asking for a password?

Thanks so much - I really appreciate your help!

Typically this happens when the password is set at the database level not at the application level. Have you tried contact DonorPerfect support for help? Since its happening before it gets to CR (I believe that is what you said) it might be worth a try.

Yes, unfortunately DonorPerfect is no help.

This is happening before I even tell Crystal we are looking at DonorPerfect.
Thanks,

Not sure what is happening.  We have a old foxpro DB and it does not have any security associated with it and it does not prompt me for any passwords?!?
