I'm have two-column report that needs to use grouping. Unfortunately, CR treats both columns as being part of the same group. It doesn't span down the page completely and then start at the top of the page. It only starts at the top of where the current group started. So the columns are all out of balance. Not only that, but it doesn't even try to put even numbers of labels on each side. It will put ten labels in the left column, and then put five in the right column. It looks ridiculous. Here is a sample:

Group Header 1
Label 1
Label 2
Group Header 2
Label 1     Label 6
Label 2     Label 7
Label 3
Label 4
Label 5

Is there a setting to fix this?

Thanks, but I don't think that's it. This looks like a one column report with two fields. I'm trying to do a newspaper format where all the info goes down the first column and then at the bottom of the page it continues onto the second column.

Let me try the sample again:

Header 1        Label 7
Label 1            Label 8
Label 2            Header 3
Header 2         Label 9
Label 3            Label 10
Label 4            Label 11
Label 5            Header 4
Label 6            Label 12

I got it working! The answer is very odd though (I don't like how they implemented this at all).

Here's the deal, if you create a report using the Mailing Label wizard and you add groups to it, then you can't do "Newspaper columns" like I'm trying to do. As I showed in the first post, it treats a group as going across all the columns in the page. The option "Down then Across" doesn't look right.

So what you have to do is create a normal report and fit the fields into the desired width of the column size. After doing this, go to Section Expert and on the Details section select option Format With Multiple Columns. After doing that, the Layout tab magically appears. Click on that and set up the width of your label sizes. Secondly, check the option Format Groups with Multiple Columns. After making these changes, click OK to save and close the dialog box.

Viola! Your report will print in newspaper column format and the columns accurately go completely down the first column before starting at the top of the next column.

I will DEFINITELY be writing about this in the next book!
